Wilnecote Weekly Update - 1st May 2026

{item_alt_tag}

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been another productive week at Wilnecote Junior Academy. Spending time around the school has been a pleasure, with pupils learning confidently, showing kindness and supporting one another in everything they do. Below is a snapshot of some of the excellent learning that has taken place this week.

Year 3

Year 3 have been busy getting hands-on in their Science lesson this week, exploring all about plants! The children enjoyed investigating how plants help create oxygen for the air we breathe, through lots of observing, talking and sharing ideas together. They have shown great inquisitiveness and enthusiasm whilst developing their scientific knowledge and understanding.

Year 4

Year 4 have been working hard rehearsing their times tables in preparation for their multiplication check after half-term.  Any support you are able to give at home makes a real difference. This could be as simple as a quick times-table game over dinner, a short quiz on the way to school or regular TTRS practice online. Every little bit helps to build confidence!

Year 5

Year 5 have been on a wonderful trip this week to Rosliston Forestry Centre on Tuesday! They looked at how to spot traces of wildlife in different habitats and tested several methods of insect catching! The children returned to school full of enthusiasm, smiles on their faces and lots of exciting experiences to share.

Year 6

Year 6 have been working incredibly hard on their writing this week, with some truly exceptional pieces being produced. The children have shown great determination and pride in their work, carefully crafting their writing and applying their skills with confidence. It has been wonderful to recognise their efforts, with lots of Headteacher Awards presented to celebrate the high standard of writing and the dedication they have shown – a real achievement to be proud of!

Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL)

As a school, we are committed to making lunchtime as engaging, enjoyable and purposeful as possible for all children. Pupils currently have access to a wide range of activities, including a mud kitchen, sand pit, a range of sports, dressing-up clothes and small-world play, all enjoyed alongside music playing in the background to create a positive atmosphere.

We are keen to make lunchtimes even better, and so our next goal is to introduce a selection of tents or tent-like structures to support imaginative and collaborative play. If you have any old tents that are no longer used and you would be happy to donate, please drop them off at the main reception.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support in helping us enrich the children’s school experience.
